Organize who hears what

Match each message to donors, volunteers, or members instead of blasting everyone.

What this helps you do

Audiences group your supporters so a message reaches the right people. You always have one All Supporters audience that reaches everyone connected, plus audiences like Donors, Volunteers, Members, Program Participants, Program Updates, Events, Community Updates, Staff, or Board and Leadership.

When to use it

Use audiences when a message fits one part of your base: an impact update for donors, a shift reminder for volunteers, a weather closure for program participants, a members-only preview, or a private note to your board.

How to do it

  • Open Audiences.
  • Keep the starter audiences you will use, such as Donors, Volunteers, Program Participants, Community Updates or Board and Leadership, and add your own.
  • Choose how people join each one: supporters choose it, you assign them, or either.
  • Mark internal audiences like Board and Leadership as private.
  • Supporters pick their own optional audiences on the preference page we provide for your organization.

Example

You create a Volunteers audience so your coordinator can send shift reminders without emailing every donor. You also create a private Board and Leadership audience for internal updates that stay in the room. A food pantry keeps a Program Participants audience too, so a snow closure reaches the families it serves without going to every donor.

Good to know

  • The All Supporters audience reaches everyone and cannot be deleted.
  • For audiences that allow it, you can assign supporters directly rather than wait for them to choose.
  • Keep Board and Leadership private so internal messages stay internal.
