What this helps you do
Editions reach readers in two ways. By email, from your first edition, with nothing installed: a reader on your opted-in list receives every edition sent to a publication they chose. On Blasts, when a reader chooses to connect with you: once that connection uses the same email address, their editions arrive on Blasts instead, directly on their phone or computer.
When to use it
Set this up before your first edition. The natural places are the ones you already own: each publication's sign-up page, the footer of every edition, your website and your profiles.
How to do it
- Export the readers who agreed to receive your publications from wherever they are today: email, name and an audiences column naming the publications you already created. Open Subscribers and choose Import, and confirm they agreed to hear from you. Every other column, like a plan, paid status or open history, is discarded before anything is saved.
- Point your sign-up form at the inbound webhook on Integrations, so each new reader becomes an email subscriber with the publications they picked.
- Adding one address by hand with Invite one person sends an invitation instead of making a subscriber.
- Click Sync connections once so your enrollment code is published, then put the code, the QR code or the printed kit on your sign-up pages and in your editions. Anyone who uses Blasts enters the code in the app, which sends you a connection request.
- Accept requests under People who want to connect, or turn on auto-accept in Settings.
Example
A publisher imports 3,000 opted-in readers with their publications named in an audiences column. The next Sunday letter reaches its readers by email. Over the following weeks some readers enter the enrollment code in Blasts with the same address they subscribed with; their editions move to Blasts on their own, and everyone else keeps receiving by email.
Good to know
- The move to Blasts needs the SAME email address. A reader who connects with a different address is a separate person here: the publications the first address chose do not move to it, and the first address keeps receiving by email.
- Nobody is subscribed to a publication by being imported unless your audiences column names it.
- Invitations to connect on Blasts are spread out at up to 200 a day.
- There is no connector to a newsletter or payment platform. Readers arrive as a CSV export, through the inbound webhook, or through Zapier.
