Organize who receives what

Send the right message to the right people instead of everyone every time.

What this helps you do

Audiences let you group your people so a message reaches just the right ones. You always have one protected audience that reaches everyone connected (a church might call it Churchwide; a nonprofit, All Supporters; an employer, All Employees), plus optional audiences you create. Open audiences are published to your enrollment code as interests: each person picks theirs in their own Blasts app or on the preferences page, and can change them at any time. Closed audiences for staff or leadership are yours to assign and are never shown to members. Tags are preferences, never access.

When to use it

Use audiences when a message matters to some of your people but not all of them: a youth event, a volunteer shift, a department notice, a season-ticket offer, a building-specific maintenance window.

How to do it

  • Open Audiences.
  • Create an audience with a name people will recognize, and an optional one-line description.
  • Choose how people join it: members choose it themselves, the organization assigns people, or either.
  • To group people inside an interest, set Inside audience to a parent (a camp inside Youth, a night shift inside Warehouse). A child audience only accepts people who picked the parent.
  • Decide whether replies to this audience's Blasts are allowed.
  • Assign people directly from Connections, one at a time or with Bulk assign, for audiences that allow it.

Example

A school creates Grade 3 Families set to members choose. On the preferences page, parents of third graders opt in. Now the grade lead can send about Friday's field trip and reach exactly those families, not the whole school. Staff, set to organization assigns, is where the principal reaches teachers only.

Good to know

  • The everyone audience reaches everyone connected and cannot be deleted.
  • Each vertical ships starter audiences that fit it; rename them, archive them, or add your own.
  • Leaders can be limited to specific audiences on the Team screen, both for sending and for reading replies.
  • Audiences are lists people choose or you assign. There are no rule-based or dynamic audiences.

Do it in your Hub

Inside your Hub, Help covers the same ground in your vertical's own vocabulary, next to the screen it describes.
